January 1st, 2017 marked the new year. For many it is a time of self-reflection and self-improvement; it is a time of a new beginning. For many, January 1st was just another Sunday. For Neola & Joel, it was a day that will begin a new life together, a brand new adventure with a lifelong running partner. Neola & Joel met in college, an engineering school in Ohio, and through their shared interests of square dancing (yes there was square dancing and line dancing at the wedding!) and running, they fell in love. Neola and Joel are thoughtful people who care immensely for each other and who express their love in quiet, intimate ways.
Neola & Joel not only shared not only their love for each other, but for their friends and family. Love and compassion flowed throughout the whole day. I witnessed silly times full of huge smiles because everybody was ecstatic and I also saw rare quiet instants. There were so many little, yet incredibly endearing moments during the day. From the subtle (or maybe not so subtle) glances at each other, the proud looks on their parents’ faces, the lovely procession music played by Joel’s sister Mae, and most especially heartwarming– the post-ceremony dance Neola & Joel shared where Joel was softly singing their first dance song in Neola’s ear. Neola and Joel are really wonderful, intelligent, compassionate people. They were gracious enough to allow me to be to document their new beginning. Congratulations Neola & Joel, and a happy, happy new year to you both!
