Garfield Park Conservatory Queer Couple’s Portrait Session with Two Dogs
About the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago, IL
THE PORTRAIT SESSION LOCATION
An iconic Chicago photography location, the Garfield Park Conservatory is located within the Garfield Park neighborhood. It is open to the public with free reservations and is incredibly easy to obtain a photography permit. It’s $85 (includes permit fee and application fee) and grants you access to the entire botanic garden for one hour. It’s the perfect winter and all-season location because come rain, shine, or blistering cold winds, you’ll enjoy the humid, balmy environment. Plus, everyone who works there is incredibly kind! A little note: this is also the same for the smaller Lincoln Park Conservatory. The Garfield Park Conservatory is the more popular one primarily for its size, but the Lincoln Park Conservatory is a beautiful showcase of greenery and flowers. Plus, it’s a more centralized location so it makes it easier to visit if you live more directly within the city.
Meet the Couple
MEET PHOENIX (SHE/HER) & KEVIN (HE/HIM)
Phoenix and Kevin are happily married but weren’t able to experience “official” wedding photos of their special day. This session was an anniversary celebration as well as their post-wedding wedding photos. Sessions like these are so special because it goes to show that regardless of what happens on your actual wedding day, it’s never a bad time to stop, get dressed up with your loved one, and have your love captured in photos. It was an honor to be able to provide dedicated couple (and four-legged family!) photos for these two very sweet people.
The Four-Legged Ones
BELLA THE MALTESE (SHE/HER) & LILY THE POMERANIAN (SHE/HER)
Bella was a bit shy to begin her session with her parents, but once we took a little stroll to the portrait spot, she opened right up and enjoyed getting loads of attention from everyone. She is now a big sister to the newest addition to the family — little Lily! Lily was such a trouper during her session. She was dressed to the nines in her dress/harness combo but with the Chicago winds was still feeling a little chilly. Thankfully, her dress was also a good wind breaker so she very cutely stuffed her nose in the front of her dress. Fashionable and practical, just like her parents!
Mei Lin (first name, she/her) is a Chicago intimate wedding, elopement, & dog photographer who's passionate about commemorating diverse couples grounded in the present moment. Animal welfare, social justice, and sustainability are three things that are really important to her. Trans rights are human rights. Love is love. Stop AAPI Hate. Black Lives Matter.
